The Nutrition & Wellness Committee Welcomes You to the
Fall 2009 Oak Grove CSA!

Dillwood Farms' Oak Grove CSA program offers members locally-grown, seasonal produce directly from their farm in Loganville, GA.  Produce grown locally gets to the consumer the day it is harvested!  Our produce does not travel across the country to get to your plate.   CSA programs have become very popular over the past 20 years for just this reason.  The fresher the produce, the healthier and better tasting the produce!

Partnership

As a partner with your local farm, members share in the risks and rewards of farming.  Some of the risks of farming, include poor harvests due to unfavorable weather or pests, and price fluctuations associated with these risks, to name a few.  Rewards are great tasting vegetables at a predetermined price!   Farmers, through direct sales to community members, who have provided the farmer with working capital in advance, receive better prices for their crops, gain some financial security, and are relieved of much of the burden of marketing and can concentrate on growing premium produce.

This partnership creates rewards for both the farmer and the consumer, which far outweigh the risks. To summarize:

Advantages for Farmers

  • Receive upfront money to help the farm financially with their cash flow
  • Early marketing assures that the produce is pre-sold and helps in farm planning and management
  • Have an opportunity to meet the people that eat their food and have a two way communication on what's grown
  • Provide healthy, local produce using organic methods

Advantages for Consumers:

  • Eat just picked, fresh, naturally grown produce which tastes the way vegetables were meant to taste
  • Get introduced to new vegetables and new ways of preparing them
  • Kids will eat vegetables if it's from "their" farm
  • Get to know who is growing your feed and provide input
  • Receive produce that is chemical and pesticide free, grown using organic methods
