Dillwood Farms was created in the late 1950's by George P. Dillard of Decatur, Georgia.  Mr. Dillard, a successful attorney and entrepreneur, began Dillwood Farms on a 50-acre parcel in East DeKalb County.  Having grown up on a tenant farm in Lithonia, Georgia, he put himself through school by growing vegetables and other farm products on property located on Covington Highway in the Lithonia area.

After graduating from law school and spending 12 years as a Special Agent in the FBI in Boston, New York and Washington, D.C., Mr. Dillard returned to Georgia and began the practice of law in Decatur.  With his savings from the FBI, he invested in the 50-acre East DeKalb property.  With mostly a "hobby" farm, Mr. Dillard raised Polled Hereford Cattle, Sheep and Shetland Ponies.  He also always had a vegetable garden.

In 1961, George purchased approximately 100 acres on Brushy Fork Road in Gwinnett County.  He later purchased an additional 53 acres in the same area.

On the Gwinnett farm, he produced cattle, hogs and hay.  As the area developed, he sold the 53 acres, as well as 35 of the 100-acre tract, for subdivisions.

In the late 1970's, one of his sons, James Randall, began a landscape and nursery company on approximately 10 acres.  This business was eventually sold to Billy Ray Allen, and is currently operated by Mr. Allen as Brushy Fork Nursery.

As the years wore on and the area became more urban, George terminated the cattle and hog opeartions and began to develop nursery products along with fruits and vegetables.  While he used commercial practices for his gardening, he always sought to produce fruits and vegetables of the highest quality.

Mr. Dillard died November 30, 2006, and while he had not developed Dillwood Farms as a large commercial grower, his objective was to grow naturally, and to maintain the highest quality of fruits and vegetables.

It is to this commitment of quality, service, and dependabililty that George Dillard desired of his land, land that we now dedicate Dillwood Farms.
